Journey into the highland rainforest of Kahuzi-Biega National Park in search of eastern lowland gorillas, the largest living gorilla subspecies. Pair the forest experience with Bukavu’s lakeside character and unhurried time beside Lake Kivu for a distinctive eastern DRC adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Bukavu

Meet your local guide on arrival and transfer to your Bukavu hotel. Settle in and receive a briefing on the park programme and the following day’s trek.

Day 2 Eastern lowland gorilla trekking

Travel to Kahuzi-Biega National Park for registration and a ranger briefing. Trek through the forest to locate a habituated eastern lowland gorilla family, then return to Bukavu after the experience.

Day 3 Kahuzi-Biega forest discovery

Return to the park for a second confirmed activity, which may include a nature walk, birding, a conservation visit or another guided forest experience.

Day 4 Lake Kivu and Bukavu

Enjoy a flexible day around Bukavu and Lake Kivu, with options such as a guided city experience, boat outing or cultural visit when available and confirmed.

Day 5 Departure

Transfer to the agreed airport, border point or onward connection according to the final travel arrangement.
